I usually pay to have them changed, but no longer now that I realize that the tools that my B attery + guy came from Harbor freight for less than $25 after discount . The press is perfect for those PITA cover backs.

The more expensive solution is to get a watch that doesn’t need a battery.

Hmmm ... I have like five watches that need a new battery. I should do this.

Not necessarily, my only watch with a battery has it permanently encased in shock gel a nd sealed in plastic, it crapped out years ago and I can’t find anybody that knows how to open it up and fix it. The damn thing cost more than any of my automatics.

Oh wow, that was more than I was expecting.

Yeah, it would be nice if it was more than a paperweight.

I feel you on that, I was thinking it can’t be that complicated. Apparently it can.

Flawed design. There’s people that know how to work on them, but none that I’ve found that are interested in taking in work.

I fixed watches while in college. Just make sure you apply a lot of downward pressure so the tool doesn’t slip (on the screw backs) . It’s also good insurance to replace the gasket and put a bit of silicone on it. And make sure not to hit the coil while you’re in there and don’t use cheap batteries.

Ooops, I bought it at Harbor freight!

Meh I’ve still needed to open them up to adjust them running to fast or slow. Of course they’re just cheap Seiko automatics.
